Now Playing on Broadway from musical revivals to political dramas to fairytale productions, Broadway offers something for everyone. Tickets may be purchased in advance through a number of different brokers.

Time Square at night

Unless you have your heart set on a specific show, one of the best ways to acquire tickets is through the (relocated into spring 2008) TKTS booth in Times Square (or the less crowded one near the South Street Seaport.) TKTS tickets are sold -- for cash or travelers check only -- with the approval of the theaters.

Even sold-out shows often have (full-price) tickets for sale the day of the show at the theater box office. You can also get cheap student and standing-room tickets for several shows. Some venues offer even cheaper seats in the mezzanine during previews and after the show opens.

Broadway

$20 Off-Broadway tickets return with their 20at20 deal. Last-minute Off-Broadway tickets will soon get cheaper during 20at20 -- from February 25 through March 9 -- when many tickets are only $20.

At 20 minutes before curtain, all unsold tickets at the 26 participating theaters will be up for grabs for $20 each during the two-week promotion (and many ended up selling out last year during the event.)

"Celia," "Crimes of the Heart," "Forbidden Broadway," "Alter Boyz," "Stomp," "Jump," and "Naked Boys Singing!" are among the shows taking part.

Willing to Work for Your Ticket? Several theaters use volunteer ushers, including most Off-Broadway theaters. In exchange for seating paying guests and, in some instances, cleaning up after the show, you get to see the performance. You'll need to visit the box office to reserve a spot as an usher.
